It’s Time to Switch Gears - Deck The Halls!
Deck the halls with boughs of holly, fla la la la la la la la la!!
No really, deck the halls! It’s mid-November, and time for Christmas decorations! Although many traditionalists would tell you that the Christmas tree and other decorations should only go up on the forth Saturday before Christmas, which is the first day of Advent (Sunday, December 1). But who's counting!? For all you grinches out there, no, it is not too soon! Sooner is always better when it comes to my favourite time of the year!
So what will it be? Are we going with the red and warm colours, or a cool, white winter… silver or gold?… or are you like me, and go decor crazy, mixing it all together (in a tasteful way, of course)? I can’t wait to see!
Let’s share some ideas and inspiration on how you can create a really fun and festive atmosphere in your own home. We can start by talking about some of the top decor trends projected for this year!
Top Christmas Decor Trends for 2021
Gingham & Buffalo Check
Opening the list with one of my favourites, the good ole' black and white, or red and white, checkered look.
You’ve more than likely seen these decor trends in shop windows or online fashion retailers.
This pattern, combined with modern timbers and a little bit of sparkle gives you a nice fresh new look for those that love that rustic farmhouse Christmas style!
Preserved and Native Florals
Although we see florals in Holiday decor often, it’s the colours and types that will have an impact on your decorating this year. In particular, the use of the preserved florals we’ve seen grow over the last year in home decor and event styling.
Mixing these into your holiday decor, with an array of colours, glittered branches and leaves... or throwing this style in with the classics like poinsettias and berries, even pine cones, you are going to be very on trend this year!
Classic Blue
Some say this one key colour will more than likely show up in the most stylish decorated homes this season. This colour represents peace and tranquility within the home - naturally, as blue has always been considered a restful colour, linked to the peace we find when we look at a blue sky, or a body of blue water.
Some might use this as a primary colour in their decor, or maybe just a feature colour. You can stick with the more royal and luxe blue vibe, or get a little playful with your light blue colours, or both combined!
DIY or Homemade Crafts
Naturally this type of decor will be prevalent in most homes, given majority of people took up DIY projects and home crafts over our Covid lockdowns/stay-at-home orders.
Don’t be fooled though, these decorations are among the most beautiful we will see, and naturally come with a dash of affordability, and a sprinkle of self-fulfilment.
Anything from wreaths, table centrepieces, to ornaments and tree decor! Can’t wait to see people get creative and let their inner artist flow this season!
Retro Candy Cane or Peppermint
This decor style reminds me of Whoville in the old classic, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. Although this is my ultimate favourite Christmas movie, it isn't my favourite decor style.
However, it is a fresh and fun look which can be carried from your table-top decor, to your Christmas tree, even through to your food stations and displays. This style can be the perfect compliment to a cozy hot chocolate station!
Textured Layers of White
Saved the best for last - white on white!
This will provide the best snow imitation, bringing those snowy winter days we all love, indoors!
If you’re anything like me, and you love this look, all you need to do is add a little depth and differentiation in your textures and shades.
For example, snow-covered branches with some nice linen or glass ornaments, and twinkling lights around the tree. Tie in an off-white throw and pillows, even a couple subtle gingham touches, and you have two of my favourite looks combined for the perfect Christmas decor!
